Thinking of running for a charity? You'll want to get event fit...
Get Event Fit is an exciting new resource for fundraising runners that is available for FREE from more than 100 participating charities. It helps runners reduce the risk of injury and become fitter, stronger and better prepared for their running event. Comprehensive programmes of running fitness, sports nutrition, mindset education and daily motivation are delivered into the Get Event Fit app to educate, inspire and motivate fundraisers everyday throughout their training journey.
Why do charities prefer their runners to be better prepared?
With the rise in popularity of fitness ‘challenge’ events, attracting and retaining high value fundraisers has become increasingly competitive for charities. Additionally, charities lose vital revenue with every fundraiser deferment and dropout, so education, inspiration and motivation delivered regularly throughout the training journey is vital to ensure fundraisers reach the start line, successfully complete their event and collect donations.
What’s wrong with ‘traditional’ PDF training guides?
Most charities and organised running events provide their fundraisers with a downloadable PDF training guide which simply outline a week-by-week running fitness schedule. However, it’s very difficult for a PDF to educate, inspire and regularly motivate runners everyday throughout their training journey and the more pages a PDF contains, the more overwhelming it becomes and the less likely it is to be read.
Evie Serventi, Deputy Editor at Running magazine, explained, “Experts agree that successful event preparation must involve more than simply improving running fitness — effective, injury free preparation requires strength and conditioning of the whole body with active recovery strategies, correct nutrition and a positive mindset.”
Why is Get Event Fit better than a PDF?
Get Event Fit, in association with Running magazine, JustGiving, HelloFresh and Strava, have re-invented the fundraiser event preparation experience by replacing the PDF training guide with comprehensive training programmes delivered into an interactive fundraiser training app.
Detailed training from their 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon running programmes are scheduled for daily delivery into the app – running fitness training, strength and conditioning exercise videos, yoga for runners, meditation, recovery, sports nutrition education, healthy recipes, running mindset advice, motivational messages and much more.
Chris Mitchell, Managing Director at Get Event Fit, explained, “Receiving only relevant fitness training, sports nutrition and mindset education on appropriate days throughout the training journey helps to retain focus, inspire fundraisers to stay motivated and reduce the risk of injury through better preparation.”
How much does Get Event Fit cost?
Get Event Fit running programmes are completely free to runners fundraising for a participating charity. The charity pre-purchase fundraiser programme deliveries from Get Event Fit, from as little as 1p per day.
Which charities currently provide Get Event Fit?
Since their recent launch, Get Event Fit have received incredible interest with more than 100 charities, big and small, requesting free charity membership and access to their comprehensive training programmes.
For a charity, Get Event Fit is really easy to use through an online dashboard – in only a few clicks a charity can schedule the automatic delivery of a complete training programme to one or hundreds of fundraisers.
Clive Sanders, Head of Events at Cancer Research UK, commented “We are excited to be working with Get Event Fit to test a new way of providing better communication to our event participants for Tough 10, our new 10K running event series. When our supporters sign up for a Cancer Research UK event, they are not only taking on a personal fitness challenge but are also doing something amazing by raising money for our life-saving research. That’s why we want to support them as much as possible with training advice as well as fundraising support, which Get Event Fit will enable us to do.”
Kate Leah, Head of Public Fundraising at Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, revealed, “Our fundraisers are amazing and we support them as much our busy team will allow. By pre-scheduling the delivery of related fundraiser communications within the Get Event Fit running programmes, we’re able to provide our fundraisers with additional motivation and encouragement just when they need it the most — during their training.”
Chris Mitchell, Managing Director at Get Event Fit, explained, “I’m incredibly proud that after many years of development, any UK charity, big or small, can now affordably deliver professional, charity-personalised event training to all their fundraising runners — helping to inspire, motivate and maximise fundraising efforts.”
